BANUR (Patiala), Nov 17: A 47-year-old farmer of Rajjomajra village under Banur police station was brutally killed on Sunday night and the police are still groping in the dark to solve the murder.

According to police sources, the deceased, identified as Gurnek Singh, went to his farm as usual on the fateful day, but never returned. A group of unidentified persons killed him in the evening when he was about to return. The body, lying in a pool of blood in the fields, was recovered yesterday morning. The mark of deep injuries on the neck, head and mouth indicated that sharp weapons were used, sources added.

The family members when contacted by The Indian Express said that Gurnek was sober in nature and had no enemies. There is even no property dispute which could have led to this brutal murder, said one of family members.

A wrist watch and some cash recovered from the deceased indicated that theft was not the motive behind the murder.

Meanwhile, Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Parampal Singh Sidhu, accompanied by SP Kewal Kumar and Rajpura DSP visited the site of crime to assess the situation. Following SSP’s direction, the Banur police have registered a case under Section 302 IPC and intensified night patrolling in the village. Ruling out the involvement of professional killers, the police said the murder was pre-planned and a conspiracy to kill Singh had been hatched with the help of locals. No arrest has so far been made in this regard.
