Faculty deans reach consensus on introducing development fee

VADODARA, Nov 5: The deans of various faculties of the M S University have decided to introduce development fee for students from this term. This was decided at a meeting held on Thursday.

While students pursuing non-professional courses including Science, Commerce and Arts will have to pay Rs 250 during admissions and Rs 100 every year, those in professional courses, including engineering and medical, will be required to pay Rs 500 at the time of admissions and Rs 250 every year.

Talking to Express Newsline, Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane said fees collected by the university had to be sent to the government, which left very little for the university.

8220;While the amount to be charged this year will stand, whether the amount needed be changed next year would be decided later,8221; he said.

Incidentally, student union leaders had staged agitations in July-August in protest against the authorities8217; decision over development fees and demanded that the amount be brought down to Rs 100 per student.

Kane said the amount collected would be used for students8217; benefit and development activities.
