8226; Tavleen Singh presents an eye-opening state of the cows in India Holy cow! Look what they8217;re talking about. Although they are considered to be holy, many are just skeletons. As for the Hindutva lovers and the BJP, they have done nothing for the well-being of the holy cows. Adopting the cow for political gain is selfish and pathetic.
8212;Arvind Amin

8226; Since both the major parties are championing the cause of the cow, it would be better if practical steps were taken to improve their pitiable conditions. A motivating programme should be launched to guide the public to restore the ancient practice of separating vegetable-waste for consumption of cows on streets. Cow-sheds should be constructed in different parts of the cities. Dairy-owners should be penalised for setting their cows free on the streets.
8212; Madhu Agrawal

8226; I was dismayed to read Tavleen8217;s views. I quote: 8216;8216;Most cows die such slow painful deaths that if it was possible for them to have a say in the matter they would almost certainly vote for lifting the ban on cow slaughter.8217;8217; By an extension of the argument, many old poor human beings should also opt for being slaughtered rather than live in abject misery.
8212; Saurabh Singal

8226; Tavleen has issued a timely and thought-provoking warning about our political parties8217; current obsession with beef and cow. It8217;s ironical that nobody bothers about a cow8217;s health, yet they make gau mata an election issue. It8217;s sad that before every election, non-issues like religion, cow, beef dominate media headlines because of our politicians. Real issues like education, healthcare find no place.
8212; Bidyut Kumar Chatterjee

8226; The article should be read by the so-called literate people who still think that issues related to the temple, cow, beef etc are important for India8217;s development. Narrow-minded educated people manipulate and polarise our society in the name of culture. Our true culture is unity in diversity. There are so many other issues vital to the country8217;s development but these educated, cunning politicians just harp on the unnecessary.
8212; Jesan Tharmaraj

8226; P. Chidambaram Allies or foes? The glue that binds them all has rightly criticised all the coalition governments that we have had so far. However, his attempt to give a clean chit to the Congress government is unjustified. The country faced its worst times during the rule of the Congress. The cause of this gratuitous omission on his part may be old loyalty. His assumption that the personal greed of ministers is keeping the present coalition going is also not off the mark. Nonetheless, he has conveniently forgotten the scam in which his name had figured. A case of selective amnesia?
8212; V.P. Damodar

8226; Our Prime Minister needs to be applauded for the dexterity with which he has successfully handled the present coalition. A.B. Vajpayee has set a precedent of sorts by ensuring the longevity of his government. The columnist is also right in pointing out that apart from the political factor, it is the vested interest of the coalition allies that keeps it intact.
