8226; With reference to 8216;8216;Soliloquies8217;8217;, if Khushboo had made that statement elsewhere, perhaps none would have reacted the way the people and some political parties in Chennai reacted. It goes to show how ignorant and hypocritical the people are. Many Tamil films that have bigamy and premarital sex as main themes are freely screened in the theaters in Chennai and watched by these very people who condemn Khushboo and her only supporter, Suhasini. However, the sulking members of National Women8217;s Commission did not think it necessary to help the women in distress. 8212;V.P.Damodar, Pune
8226; I refer to Soli Sorabjee8217;s article 8216;8216;Sex taboos8217;8217;. Indians have the penchant to interpret things according to their whims and fancies. One fails to understand as to how talking openly about sex would solve the problem of AIDS. If AIDS has to be eradicated then some stern measures should be taken. An AIDS test should be made compulsory before marriage. This could serve as a deterrent for many youngsters indulging in pre-marital sex. Sex education should be made compulsory in schools and colleges. 8212;Amjad K. Maruf, Mumbai

8226; It Will bring a lot of solace to millions of rail passengers to note that while echoing opinion of India8217;s high and mighty about filthy state of our airports Tavleen has remembered our railway stations A Long Wait for Take off. Those who have to visit railway stations, mainly those on important sections like Mumbai-Delhi, have to suffer not only huge crowds, including beggars, porters, hawkers, and permanent 8216;residents8217; but also bear stench of tons of human excreta. Though we boast our nuclear capabilities, satellites, and LCAs made in India, we have failed to provide decent toilets even on our prestigious trains like Rajdhanis. Clean toilets, like those on aircraft, on our trains will serve far more Indians than an ultra modern airport. So also, clean railway stations with enough seats for passengers to wait while our trains take their own time arriving, luggage trolleys, disable friendly stairs and such other rudimentary facilities are far overdue. 8220;Our corporate honchos and journalists like Tavleen who may never travel by train should, at least occasionally, spare a thought for railway passengers while they wait for 8216;take-off8217;? Do we merit a 8216;fifth column8217; Tavleen?8221; 8212;Kishore Karnad, kishkarnadsify.com
