Epic songs

Lilette Dubey8217;s Jaya is a musical montage of the greatest Indian epic, The Mahabharata. An operatic version inEnglish, the play has some good live singing by actors such as Nandu Bhende, Devika Bhojwani, Vishal Dadlani, Asif Ali Beg and Jean Michael. It has been sponsored by BPL Mobile and after a few exclusive BPL shows, the production is now open to the public.

Time and again

Sonal Motla, who has organised shows such as State Of The Art 8212; computer-aided paintings and Circling The Square, where leading contemporary painters designed their interpretations of furniture, has come up with another unusual show called Essays In Time. It is an exhibition of kinetic sculptures and works by various artists on the subject of time. The only brief that artists were given was 8212; do not design time pieces. This exhibition is a must-see.

Weaving ties

The British Council Division, British Deputy High Commission is organising an exhibition of two dimensional and three dimensional Textile Images by Nita and Jaidev Thakore. This exhibition is an attempt to establish meaningful connections between the textile art movements, in India and in the West.

Water world

An exhibition by the famous water-colour artist Paresh Maity is starting early next week. This 33-year-old Delhi based painter is most famous for his water colours but included in this exhibition are 14 oil canvases. Paresh has studied art in both Calcutta and Delhi. His work has even been on display at the British Museum in London. Paresh has won a whole host of awards in his short career, including Russia8217;s Gold Medal.

The theme for his Mumbai showing is quot;Encountersquot; and about 45 paintings will be on display. The price ranges from Rs 12,000 to Rs 2,000,00.
