Epic Movie

From the makers of Scary Movie 8212; which spoofs horror films 8212; comes Epic Movie. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer spoof recent films epic in terms of story, popularity or pure reputation, including Narnia, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Da Vinci Code, briefly Superman, American Pie, James Bond and television shows like Punk8217;d.

But given that the idea has more potential than yet another Scary Movie, the satire is lame, with the film not for a second rising above cheap shots. The jokes are common irrespective of the film involved 8212; mostly centred around bodily functions or sexual encounters between a lion and a man; a goat and a man; a half-man, half-goat and a beaver etc etc.

Only in Jack Swallows a reference obviously to Johnny Depp8217;s Jack Sparrow do they hit bulls8217;-eye, but then Jack Sparrow itself is a spoof.

What will really hurt fans here is seeing Kal Penn. The actor who impressed with The Namesake is a dimwitted sidekick here, just the kind of role he would normally get in Hollywood. He even spoofs his own film Harold 038; Kumar Go To White Castle, which incidentally was much more funny as a 8220;somewhat satire8221; on race.
