CHANDIGARH, Nov 19: The customer is going to have a big say in the 21st century and the Human Development Index would be the object of much attention.

This fact was brought out in two-day National Seminar on Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century organised by the Entrepreneurship Development and Industrial Coordination Department of the Technical Teachers’ Training Institute here today. S. K. Dhameja, co-ordinator for the seminar said possessing entrepreneurship qualities was necessary for people working in government concerns as well as for people in private enterprises. He stated that there was a need to harness the entrepreneurship abilities of young people to be prepared for the next century. In his inaugural address Dr. R. S. Khandpur, director general, Centres for Electronics Design and Technology of India (CEDTI) said that giving technical education to young people without arming them with the required technical skills had been unable to deliver its purpose. He pointed out that the industry often complained of engineers and diploma holders lacking attributes like creativity, innovation, risk taking ability, etc- broadly constitutingentrepreneurial qualities.

The main objective of the seminar is to highlight various problems and issues faced by entreprenurs, action implementation of TQM and ISO-9000 and management and growth strategies for small and medium enterprises, he said.

The seminar would provide a platform to academicians, policy formulators, researchers, management professionals, consultants, technocrats and entrepreneurs for commenting on the emerging trends in entrepreneurship and small business developments.
