
ANAND, April 21: A two-day national meet of scientists working in the field of unconventional and renewable sources of energy was concluded here on Saturday.
The meet organised by Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute SPRERI, Vidyanagar was attended by 40 scientists of 15 centres of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research ICAR coordinated projects.
The meet was inaugurated by professor A C Pandya, former director, BIAF, Bhopal. He said while conventional sources of energy were being emptied because of extensive use and fossil fuel has polluted the environment, it is necessary that non-conventional sources of energy like solar energy, bio-gas, and others are used and new technologies are developed.
The meet discussed the on-going research programmes on bio-gas and wind-mill sources and chalked out strategies.
SPRERI director B S Pathak said, short and long term programmes to meet energy requirements of agriculture and agro-based industries should be taken up on priority and non-conventional and renewable sources be used for these industries.
Killed: A Class XII student was killed near Vaibhav tower on Anand-Vidyanagar road when his motorbike rammed into a police patrol van on Saturday night. Anand town police said Ashwin Kumar, son of NCC officer, Subedar B D Dogra was coming from Lambhavel Road on a friend8217;s Hero Honda motorbike GJ-3 E-8435 hit the van. He died in a hospital at Karmasad.
Police said Dogra was on leave and had gone to Himachal Pradesh.
