Elect one, get one free — this is the oft repeated poll slogan of a BJP candidate’s wife from this Ahir-dominated Assembly constituency.

“When you go to market, you often hear about buy one, get one free schemes. Now, if you elect my husband, you will get my hospitality free,” said Kiran Yadav, wife of BJP candidate Jaswant Singh Yadav while campaigning for her husband in various villages across the constituency.

Explaining her slogan, she told the electorates, “When you come to meet him with your work, I will welcome you with folded hands and offer you tea. I will ensure that your work is done…If you elect the BJP candidate, you will get one free.”

An accompanying party worker added, “Women here often do not move out to campaign for their kin…she is a doctor and has been living in Delhi. That gives her the confidence to campaign and interact with the voters.”

The candidate, Jaswant Singh, is also a doctor and helps her wife run a clinic in Delhi.

During campaigning, the doctor couple moved in different directions. Areas visited by Kiran Yadav in her campaign are again covered by her husband the next day. “Two visits ensure that no voter is left out,” claimed a BJP worker.
