Controversial umpire Darrell Hair continues to be an unwelcome man on the cricket field with the Australian being withdrawn from an English county second XI fixture he was due to umpire tomorrow.
Hair was to officiate at Chesterfield in a match between Derbyshire and Gloucestershire, but has been stood down by the ECB in the aftermath of the Oval fiasco which resulted in the first ever forfeiture in the history of Test cricket.
Hair has apologised to his friends and supporters for letting them down by sending an 8220;ill-advised8221; e-mail offering a conditional resignation to the ICC . But the controversy has made it highly unlikely for Hair to stand in county matches with some sections of the ECB and the players8217; association saying the umpire had 8220;lost credibility.8221;
Hair felt sorry for the fact that he allowed others to question his motives. 8220;I wish to apologise to all my family, friends and supporters, because I somehow feel that I may have let them down, simply by sending an ill-advised but entirely confidential e-mail,8221; Hair was quoted in a statement.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has asked the ICC to probe Hair8217;s conduct at the Oval Test before holding the hearing of skipper Inzamam-ul Haq next month. PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan, in a letter to the ICC has demanded an inquiry into Hair8217;s conduct before it takes a decision on charges of ball tampering.
