
The Election Commission issued notice to BJP leader Arun Jaitley for violating the Model Code of Conduct by allegedly using the National Emblem to seek votes for a party candidate in poll-bound Delhi and sought an explanation from him by 5 pm on Saturday.
Acting on a complaint, the EC issued notice to the BJP General Secretary and Rajya Sabha member 8220;for using his official pad with National Emblem8221; to appeal to the electors of Vishwas Nagar constituency to vote for BJP nominee Om Prakash Sharma.
8220;The Commission has decided to afford Arun Jaitley an opportunity to furnish an explanation as to why action should not be taken for the alleged violation of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct,8221; the EC notice said.
The EC has asked Jaitley to reply to the notice by 5 p.m. on Saturday and has warned that it will take appropriate action if the fails to comply. Elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on Saturday.
