CALCUTTA, FEB 17: Title aspirant East Bengal exploited a sloppy defence to spank lowly Mahindras 4-0 in their last Group-B league match of the third National Football League at the Salt Lake Stadium here today.

Striker Dipendu Biswas struck two goals while Raman Vijayan and Emmanuel Opoku chipped in with a goal each to carve out a convincing victory for the home team.

East Bengal thus complete their group-B league engagements with as many as 26 points while Mahindras could just manage ten points after their ten matches.

Salgaocar whip IB

MARGAO: Salgaocar thrashed Indian Bank 5-1 to fill the last slot of the Super Six edition. Salgaocar, who took time to settle down, went into the lead in the 23rd minute through Bruno Coutinho. They consolidated the lead in the 35th minute through Alvito D8217;Cunha to lead 2-0 at half time.

Indian bank were reduced to ten men when referee Ravi Shankar send out defender VP Sathyan for his second booking. Salgaocar made it 3-0 through Jude Odegah in the 70thminute. Bruno scored his second before William Inganga made it 5-0. Bank reduced through Amal Raj.

ITI shock FCK

THRISSUR: Indian Telephones Industries ITI, Bangalore, signed off in style in their last league match surprising FC Kochin 1-0 at the Municipal Stadium grounds here today.

The all-important goal was booted in by substitute Abraham in the 76th minute. Kochin have, however, qualified for the Super six.
