NEW DELHI, July 22: The Union Power Secretary and the chairman of the Delhi Vidyut Board DVB appeared before the Delhi High Court today following the summons issued to them on a petition by Niti Bagh residents seeking uninterrupted power supply.

Counsel for DVB Arun Jaitley submitted before Justice Anil Dev Singh that the Board had carried out a survey in Niti Bagh and found that seven houses had a connected load of 350 Kilowatts as against the total connected load of 202 KW thus making illegal load growth of 75 per cent beyond the sanctioned load. Jaitley said that the Board had given several opportunities to the residents to augment the load and the problem arose not only because of faults but also because of unauthorised connected load.

The Board also informed the court that the existing 630 KVA transformer had been augmented with a 1,000 KVA transformer. Justice Amil Dev Singh posted the matter for July 27 when similar petitions will come up for hearing before him. Additional Solicitor General C.S. Vaidyanathan appeared for the central government.

The High Court had on the previous hearing directed the counsel for the central government and the DVB to ensure that the power secretary and the DVB chairman were present in the court on July 22.
