With two suspects in the Satyendra Dubey murder case dead, there’s growing criticism in Bihar over the manner the CBI has handled the probe into the killing of the NHAI engineer. There are fresh demands for a judicial inquiry into the issue of corruption raised by Dubey.

Bihar Legislative Council chairman Jabeer Hussain on Tuesday said he was writing to the Chief Justice of India, seeking a judicial probe into the corruption issue raised by Dubey.

BJP leader Sushil Modi too demanded that the present CBI team be replaced. He was all for an inquiry into what led to the death of the two suspects a day after their interrogation by the CBI.

In a supplementary to a PIL in Patna High Court on the Dubey murder, lawyer M P Gupta will seek a judicial probe into the sequence of events leading to the deaths of the suspects.

The petition comes up on Wednesday when the Centre will be required to file affidavits on whether it’s satisfied with the security arrangements for the Golden Quadrilateral work in Bihar.

Meanwhile, Bihar Law Minister Shakeel Ahmad suspects ‘‘a larger and intelligent conspiracy’’ behind Dubey’s murder: ‘‘The deaths of these two (suspects) could well be a diversionary tactic by conspirators.’’ He alleged that the CBI was ‘‘non-serious’’ in its investigation.

‘‘If you look at the Telgi case, Mumbai blasts or the exam paper leak, an investigating agency, whenever and wherever it has tried earnestly, has succeeded. But here, they seem to be in hurry to prove the murder-for-robbery theory.’’

‘‘Why the silence on the issues of corruption raised by Dubey? There seems to be a design to divert attention from those behind bunglings in the GQ project,’’ Ahmad said.

The Bihar government, he said, would name after Dubey a science block in the Mahant Satyanand Giri college in Sherghati on the highway he was building. The plaque on the building, he said, would remember Dubey as ‘‘one who died fighting against corruption, as Mahatma Gandhi died fighting communalism.’’
