CPI M termed Finance Minister P Chidambaram drawing India parallel with China as 8220;misleading8221;, saying both the countries cannot be compared as Beijing was being treated as a nuclear weapon state.
8220;Drawing parallel with India and China is misleading as China is treated as a nuclear weapon state while India is not,8221; CPI M politburo member Sitaram Yechury told reporters in New Delhi.
He said the draft safeguards agreement for the nuclear deal circulated in the IAEA treats India as a non-nuclear weapon state and 8220;there is a whole world of differences between the two.
8220;Therefore, it is misleading to compare India with China8230;.we have always noted that the deal comes with strings which will only emasculate India8217;s sovereignty. That is why we are opposing the deal,8221; he said.
During the debate on confidence motion in Lok Sabha, Chidambaram said 8220;some people8221; do not want India to catch up with China.
8220;There are some people in the country who do not want India to catch up with China8230;They do not want India to be ahead of China,8221; Chidambaram said.
