The probe report on the Dow Chemicals imbroglio could miss its deadline with a demand being made that the head of the panel be replaced.
The SP Kurudkar-led committee was set up on October 19 and was to submit its report in a month.
But sources close to those crusading against the project alleged that Kurudkar was a close relative of an advocate working for the company. They are confident that he will be replaced.
8220;We have reported to the Union government his closeness to the committee. We have been assured that the committee would be re-constituted under a new head,8221; said a member of the Warkari sect.
The sect has been campaigning for the removal of the project from Shinde village. They believe the project would pollute the environment. The government set up the committee to assess the project8217;s environmental impact.
The three-member committee included IIT Bombay scientist Dr SK Gupta and a Groundwater Survey and Development Authority GSDA officer from Pune, SB Khandale. Member secretary of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board MPCB Sanjay Khandare is secretary to the committee.
