The department of telecom DoT has put to rest all doubts over how much subscribers should pay for fixed wireless phones and how far they can go with them.

In a letter to basic operators including BSNL and MTNL, DoT said late on Wednesday night that a fixed wireless phone service used outside its place of registeration must pay the access deficit and interconnect charges of a WLL mobile service.

The responsibility to ensure that fixed wireless sets are not used beyond the 8216;8216;premises of the subscriber where the telephone connection is registered8217;8217; rests sqaurely on service provider8217;s shoulders, the DoT note said.

It has directed fixed wireless operators to install a separate numbering plan to identify and confine fixed wireless services to subscriber premises. 8216;8216;The terminal used for fixed wireless services should be strictly confined to the premises of the subscriber where the telephone connection is registered,8217;8217; DoT said.
