Ahead of the All India Football Federation Disciplinary Committee meeting later this month, Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Subrata Paul8217;s morale would have been boosted by what Dr P K Devadass Head of Department, Forensic Medicine at Victoria Hospital where Cristiano Junior8217;s post-mortem was carried out had to tell The Indian Express. According to Devadass, irrespective of whether Paul struck Junior or not, 8216;8216;he was not responsible for his death8217;8217;.

8216;8216;In the first place, there was no evidence of the blow on the body. Even before the blow, his heart had already started functioning abnormally due to exertion and excitement. Even if there was a blow, it was not responsible for his death,8217;8217; Devadass said.

Could anything have saved Junior? 8216;8216;I don8217;t think there was time for anything. Everything happened within a matter of two minutes,8217;8217; Devadass said.

Reiterating what the AIFF press release suggested a couple of days back, Devadass said that Junior died only because of the 8216;8216;abnormal functioning of his heart8217;8217;.

Junior8217;s 8216;8216;blood circulation stopped and instantly it affected his head. That is why his neck went up and eyes rolled over immediately.8217;8217;

Meanwhile, Devadass said that Junior8217;s body viscera will be handed over only after directions from a magistrate and after all the proper procedures are followed. He explained: 8216;8216;We entirely respect Junior8217;s widow Juliana8217;s sentiments. But then in medico-legal work there is no room for sentiment. We are bound by procedures and no sooner they are followed, we will return the heart and other body viscera with the same dignity as that of the body.8217;8217;

AIFF secretary Albert Colaco suggested that the second post-mortem that Juliana had asked for might be conducted in Brazil.

8216;8216;We are also in touch with the Brazilian and FIFA authorities. Dr Dvorac of the FIFA Medical Commission is likely to go to Brazil. He was to come to India but then as Junior8217;s body parts were in Bangalore and the legal procedures involved in procuring them could cause some delay,8217;8217; Colaco added.

Dempo bid tearful farewell to Junior
