ONE bad deed deserves another. Some months ago, Salman Khan dropped out of his commitment to make a guest appearance in Rohan Sippy’s Kuch Na Kaho (starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai) when he split with the former Miss World. Aishwarya was considerably embarrassed, since it was she who had promised the Sippys that Salman would do the role. Now, perhaps to avenge that let-down, Aishwarya has opted out of Atul Agnihotri’s directorial debut, which she was meant to star in with Salman. It has been learnt that Karisma Kapoor has promptly replaced the Devdas star. On the other hand, Salman’s chhota bhai Arbaaz has stepped into his big bro’s shoes and taken on that role in Sippy’s film. Et tu Brutus, do we hear Salman say?
Excuse Me?!
No More Sister Act
Amisha over Ash
WHEN all else fails, become a film director. Sad, but that’s what seems to be happening in Bollywood these days. Jeetendra’s nephew Abhishek Kapoor (or Gattu, Twinkle Khanna’s former boyfriend, as some might remember him) tried acting first, but failed miserably as you would have guessed if you’d seen Uff Yeh Mohabbat. He moved to television software production (without much luck), then tried his hand at an entertainment portal on the Net (also unsuccessful), and has now set his sights to film direction. Gattu will make his directorial debut with a film about boxing called Aryan, and starring old friend Sohail Khan. Incidentally, the title Aryan had been registered with Khan for years, but the director-actor has graciously let Gattu have it now. Since there’s not much of a rush to sign up either Gattu or Sohail (as actors or directors), they seem to have decided to pull each other out of unemployment by working together.

Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Sonali Bendre are all on TV, but as themselves, as anchors. Is it wise for Karisma to make her television debut in a mega-soap? Rahul Dev: I wish she wouldn’t take up television because Bollywood needs good actresses and she’s one of the best. I don’t think TV can do justice to her talent. Manish Malhotra: A good actress is a good actress, irrespective of whether she’s performing on celluloid or on television. I think it’s commendable that Karisma has decided to take up a challenge like this while she’s at the top. I think her TV stint will be eventful. Amisha Patel: Karisma has been successful even with ventures everyone thought she wouldn’t be able to pull off. I don’t think anyone should take her less seriously because she is moving into TV. I won’t be surprised if she make a hit of her TV project. Gracy Singh: If the show is interesting, it will work. If the show is not interesting, even Karisma’s talent and popularity won’t be able to save it. |
