A young idealistic Mumbai cop who just happens to be Muslim wakes up one morning to find his world in tatters. Incontrovertible evidence at a crime scene points to the fact that his beloved wife was a suicide bomber, responsible for taking several lives. He is in denial, to begin with. And then, as he digs deeper, dark secrets come tumbling out.
Pooja Bhatt8217;s film is about a real issue, and that8217;s its core strength. Liberal thinking Muslims, like Inspector Zayed Muzamil are always on the mat, always being asked to proved their nationalistic credentials in these increasingly communally charged times. Cop brutality is a fact: one of the most powerful scenes in the movie belongs to Anupam Kher and Tulip Joshi, as he is forced to watch his daughter8217;s humiliation and rape at the hands of a policeman Ashutosh and his leering companions.
But the film doesn8217;t get where it should have, because of its banal patches, both in the acting, and the directing.
