DEHRA DUN, AUG 30: BJP — the party in waiting to form the new government in the newly-created state of Uttaranchal — has demanded that only those officers of Central services willing to serve in the hills be deputed there. This was stated by the president of the party’s Uttaranchal unit and a strong chief ministerial contender of the new state Bhagat Singh Khoshiyari.

However, not many IAS and IPS officers of the Uttar Pradesh cadre haveshowed their willingness to serve in the new state. Koshiyari said that instead of picking up officers through roaster system, officers should be asked whether they want to serve in the new state or not.

He said earlier officers considered postings in the hill divisions of Garhwal and Kumaon as a punishment and this had led to lack of motivation on part of officials to work sincerely for welfare of the people and region’sdevelopment. “All these reasons contributed to the demand of a separate hill state and therefore unwilling officers should not be imposed here,” Koshiyari added.

The Uttaranchal BJP unit chief said that honest and hardworking officers from other states willing to serve in Uttaranchal should be called on deputation in case there was paucity of officials from the parent cadre of Uttar Pradesh. Discussions were held with Union Home Minister L.K. Advani in this regard, he added.
