In an expression of their feelings on Independence Day to Expressindia.com, a civil services exam topper, NCW chairperson, an eminent cricketer and Joint GS of VHP open up to Ashok Kumar. Not just that, they disclose their dreams and desires for their country.
V V S Laxman (Cricketer)
Eminent cricketer VVS Laxman, feels that he would like to do his bid as a cricket player by playing as much matches as he can play by representing his country in the international matches and ensuring a win.
Personally I feel, Laxman says, that the pace of development which India is witnessing in these days should be carried to future with same vigour and zeal without stopping a whit.
Laxman says, that youth of the country are the most important segment of our society and they should try their every bit to play an active role in the progress of the country.
Not only that Youth should try to be optimistic even in trying circumstances and should not be bogged down by the struggles which come across their path. They are the most energetic and enthusiastic component of the country.
Laxman says that it is our duty as Indian citizens to stay united in all circumstances and let not the difficult times play with the social fabric which our country enjoys. He also calls on the citizens to be active participants in the progress of our country.
Mona Pruthi (Civil Services Topper)
Mona Pruthi topper of Indian Administrative Services feels that one should be proud of India and its vibrant democracy. Indians have a reason to feel satisfied because of the strong democratic foundations we have developed.
Despite various shortcomings, which our country has to face from time to time we have developed strong pillars which are powerful enough to withstand any danger that comes across us and challenge our integrity.
As an individual I feel that though we have made big leaps in terms of progress and has to our credit many worthy achievements, still much is left to accomplish down the lane and it is our duty to ensure that, with all our efforts.
Personally I feel our efforts should not be limited to ourselves only but should benefit our society for the betterment of all. For women I would like to say that they should come out of the thresholds of the historical disabilities, which they have faced since ages and should continue their fight till the end.
They should vow this day, to break away all the gender generated fetters which have been hampering their prospects of a healthy life. Though women have been able to come a long way from their cursed past but all has not been achieved yet so they should give a self call to themselves to be ever vigilant for their rights.
Women will have the real emancipation the day, when they are able to enjoy all the fruits of the democratic system which India adopted after a long and difficult struggle of freedom from the foreign nationals.
Champat Rai (Joint GS VHP)
I am very happy on this occasion, but I feel the real Independence is yet to come. Independence in terms of economic prosperity, political awakening and self sufficiency in terms of development is still a far cry for us.
What happened sixty years ago was simply a transfer of governance from the British hands to the natives. But that only, is merely a token of Independence. The real independence will be achieved when we become self reliant in all fields of progress.
Unless all the Indians realise their active participation in all the moments and movements the country, the real taste of Independence will be elusive of the large sections of the society. A sense of empowerment trickling down the downtrodden spheres will only make the country truly independent.
Just having the system in one’s own hands is not what true independence is all about. It has to transcend beyond its obvious limits to the real empowerment of each and every individual and then only will we be able to celebrate the true colours of Independence.
Girija Vyas (Chairperson, NCW)
It is a very happy occasion for all Indians to cherish, exclaims, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women. But just celebrating it will not be a true justice to this day.
Quoting Mahatama Gandhi, she said, Gandhiji believed that Independence means equality. But women in this country are still struggling to fight out for equal rights in various fields. Thus for us, to celebrate independence would be to re-pledge ourselves to the unfinished task of attaining all round equality for this part of the population.
I as the chief of National Commission for Women would make my resolves firmer on this day to continue my work without resting on the past accomplishments of the Indian women. It is my strong resolve to unite the women of this country for a mission of giving a united fight to all the injustices meted out to us as women.
I believe consolidated efforts will take us through all the difficulties which comes across our way and relentlessly move forward to gain the rights so far denied to us and see the real empowerment which will give us true feelings of emancipation.
