Delhi University students are partying harder than before as the campus festivals are getting bigger and brighter with rock performances, fashion shows, movie screening, western music competitions and appearances by stars. This year, seven colleges are organising festivals at the same time between December 17 and 21, thereby increasing the pressure of drawing the maximum crowd.

8220;In DU it8217;s all about the right marketing strategy and we have mastered the art,8221; said Yogesh Kumar, President of Film Society of Hansraj College that has been preparing for the festival since the first week of November. 8220;We have been working day and night and we are confident that the crowd will be great,8221; said Rohan Teotia, the president of the student body of the college.

In a bid to draw the crowd, Hindu and Sri Ram College of Commerce SRCC are leaving no stone unturned in matters of publicity. Pamphlets and certificates being printed, prize money is being arranged, dais for rock shows are being constructed and Rs 2 lakh deals with rock stars are also being fixed. But the million dollar question is where does all the cash come from?

8220;That is the toughest part of festivals,8221; said Ravi Nath, President of the students union of SRCC that has one of the biggest festivals each year. 8220;We have been gathering sponsors since September. The College does grants us some money from the fund but that is never enough,8221; he adds. This time around SRCC will be having a four-day fest that includes pop night, DJ night and rock show among others. Several brands such as Nike and Adidas will be sponsoring their shows.

Miranda House on the other hand has a new strategy of inviting famous alumni on the campus. This year, they have invited filmmaker Mira Nair and dancer Shobhana Narayan to inaugurate their festival on December 18. However, Dr Reema Bhatia, Department of Sociology, who is helping students in fixing the invite says that more than a marketing strategy, it is a way to facilitate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the college. 8220;We are proud of the two women and thought that they would be the apt choice to mark our 60th year,8221; she said.

S K Arora, principal of Hansraj College, feels that the pressure of having the best festival in DU has increased with time.
