Delhi HC admits plea on Pratibha

The Delhi High Court on Monday admitted a petition seeking disqualification of UPA nominee Pratibha Patil from the presidential election due on July 20.

The Delhi High Court on Monday admitted a petition seeking disqualification of UPA nominee Pratibha Patil from the presidential election due on July 20.

The petition, filed by one Sanjay Tiwari, alleged that Patil was holding offices of profit, thus making her ineligible to contest the Presidential polls.

Justice B D Ahmed, however, adjourned the hearing in the matter after Tiwari failed to attend court as he was unwell.

8220;Rajeev Tiwari petitioner8217;s relative, appearing for him, said the petitioner was unwell and was seeking an adjournment,8221; Justice Ahmed said.

8220;Only on this ground the matter is adjourned to September 24,8221; Justice Ahmed added. The petition was strongly opposed by Additional Solicitor General P P Malhotra as an 8220;abuse of the process of court8221; which cannot be entertained after the issuance of the notification for the election.

Senior Advocate and Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi also informed the court that the same person sought to appear in the Supreme Court in a similar matter and the court had dismissed his petition.
