Anti-Child Servitude Day observed
The South Asian Coalition on Child Servitude organised a massive demonstration to commemorate Anti-Child Servitude Day on Friday. Thousands of school children, child labourers and representatives of voluntary organisations like Prayas and Deepalaya took part in the demonstration. Some of them later submitted a memorandum to President K.R. Narayanan to demand immediate implementation of the National Human Rights Commission report on child labour. They also demanded that employment of children below the age of 14 years be made a punishable offence.

Power supply to be suspended
Electricity supply will be suspended from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday at all places fed through transformers located at ITO, Gulab Bhawan, Ring Road, Vikas Bhawan and IP Estate. A Delhi Vidyut Board release stated that major maintenance work will be carried out at these transformers.

Additional DTC bus stops
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has added additional stops and extended the journey time of buses on the following routes. Buses on route number 154 will now ply between Dahisara Border and Mori Gate; Buses on route number 952, between Punjabi Bagh Extension and Kamla Market, will now go via Ram Pura, Sarai Rohilla and Liberty Cinema instead of Zakhira and Kishan Ganj; Buses on route number 732 will ply from Palam Village and Mori Gate through areas like Sadar Bazaar and Karol Bagh; Buses on route number 157 will ply from Ashok Vihar-II and Palika Kendra; and buses on route number 174 will henceforth ply between Azadpur Terminal and Jayanti Border instead of Kanjhwala and Fatehpuri.

Excise, customs employees’ strike
Central Excise and Customs employees continued with their indefinite strike for the fourth day on Friday. The employees, who announced the strike on September 15, are demanding reduction in time-period for promotions as well as increase in the quota for inspector level officers in the ministerial cadre.

City’s first Stroke Clinic
Indraprastha Apollo Hospital will launch the Capital’s first `Stroke Clinic’ from Tuesday. The clinic will be held in the hospital’s neuroscience department on weekdays, providing technical knowhow and advice on prevention, diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients suffering from cerebrovascular disease. The clinic has been launched because recent studies have identified stroke as the third largest killer after cancer and cardiac disease in India.

Bal Bhawan competitions
National Bal Bhawan is organising a painting, elocution and slogan writing competition for children on Monday. The competition which is a prelude to World Habitat Day on October 4 and this year’s theme `safe city’, is being sponsored by the Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment.
