Egyptian, French film festivals
The nine best feature films of thespian Alain Delon, a legend of French cinema, will be screened in a special homage festival being held in the first week of June.

The films being screened were listed by the artist as being his best. Organised by the French Cultural Centre, the festival will be held at the Siri Fort Auditorium from June 1 to 5.

Some of the films being screened are: Bright Sunlight, The Big Grab, Monsieur Klein, Three Men to Kill and The Samurai.

Meanwhile, the second Egyptian film festival has commenced in the Capital with five feature films. The festival, organised by the Egyptian Embassy and the India International Centre, commenced earlier this week and will continue till May 26. The films are: Terrorism and Kabab, Gone Astray, The Impossible, The Bribees and The Mirage.PM to receive games baton
Prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will receive the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games baton at his official residence here on Thursday.

The Queens Baton, equivalent to the Olympic flame, left the Buckingham Palace last month and is passing through member-countries of the Commonwealth and will reach the Malaysian Capital ahead of the games to be held in September.

Vajpayee will receive the baton from Sharad Rao, legal advisor to the Commonwealth Games Federation at his 7, Race Course Road residence in a brief ceremony.

The Indian Olympic Association president, Suresh Kalmadi, and Secretary General Randhir Singh will also be present.

Divide city into 5 judicial districts
The New Delhi Bar Association and the Shahdara Bar Association called upon the Delhi government to implement the decision of dividing the Capital into five judicial districts on Wednesday.

At a joint meeting, the two associations proposed that with a widely scattered population, division of the city into five judicial districts was essential to enable people to seek justice at their doorsteps.

They threatened to launch an agitation if any attempts were made to interfere with the process of implementing this decision.

“Dividing Delhi into five judicial districts will help both litigants and lawyers in seeking Justice,” NDBA said.

New KVIC chairman
Dr Mahesh Sharma has been appointed chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

Dr Sharma, a part-time member representing the North Zone of the KVIC, replaces Surendra Mohan, who resigned after the BJP-led government assumed office at the centre.

The appointment will be effective till September 5, 1999.
