DU teachers to observe one-day hunger strike n A BATCH of Delhi University teachers will stage a day8217;s hunger strike outside the Delhi University Teachers Association DUTA office on Wednesday. The 500 teachers are demanding that any settlement reached between DUTA and the Human Resource Development ministry should have the prior approval of the general body.

Discussion on medical care for burn patients
A panel discussion on The State of Medical Care for Burn Patients in the National Capital, organised by the Association of the Victims of Uphaar Tragedy, will be held at India Habitat Centre on Wednesday.

IMA organises health camp
A multi-disciplinary health check-up camp, sponsored by the Janta Janardan Health Organisation, was organised by IMA New Delhi and Lions Club Panchsheel president Rajiv Garg at Arjun Nagar in Safdarjung Enclave here. More than 400 persons, including women and children, were examined. Rajpal, president of Mata Ka Mandir, co-ordinated in free distribution of medicines to the poor and the needy.

Free eye, ENT camp
A two-day free eye and ENT camp is being organised by the Tirath Ram Shah Hospital in the Capital from May 15 to commemorate its 43 anniversary. Senior eye and ENT surgeons will examine and provide treatment free of cost. The patients requiring surgery or implantation of the intra-ocular lens would be provided the same free of cost.

Mayor inaugurates cement godown
Delhi Mayor Yog Dhyan Ahuja on Tuesday said a one-third of Delhi8217;s total budget should be earmarked for the development of the trans-Yamuna area, since one-third of the total population lives in this 8220;least developed area.8221; Ahuja was speaking at the inauguration of a cement godown at Nand Nagri, the first of its kind in the trans-Yamuna area.

Environment week held at DPS
The Delhi Public School, Vasant Vihar, held an Environment Week from May 4 to 8. In the science fair, the children demonstrated models on the conservation of energy, in particular the various uses of solar energy. Other activities included nature walks, visits to various museums and poster-making and slogan-writing competitions.

DVB raids 8212; 84 power theft cases booked
After conducting a series of raids, the DVB has booked 84 cases of power theft and metre tampering. The raids were conducted in Hastsal village, Rohini, Rajouri Garden, Janakpuri, Saket, Jhandelwalan, Bazar Sita Ram, Khanpur Extension, Abdul Fazal Enclave, Okhla, Shakarpur, Wazirpur, Kabul Nagar, Rohtas Nagar and Viswas Nagar.

Symposium on stress mgmt for students
The Central Board of Secondary Education is organising a symposium on Stress Management for Students on Thursday at the India International Centre. The programme will be an interactive one, in which school principals, psychologists and psychiatrists will participate.

Illegal colonies to be regularised
Over a thousand unauthorised colonies in Delhi will soon be regularised, according to Palam MLA Dharam Dev Solanki, who said that an understanding has already been reached between the Central and Delhi governments. The colonies came up in March 1993. Lakhs of people live in them, without basic civic amenities. Solanki said the Delhi Government has already allocated Rs 50 crore for the development of these colonies.
