Meanwhile, the blame game has begun among the UPA partners on who forced the Government to blink on the nuclear deal. The Congress feels the allies balked at the prospect of an early election, little realising that they too were party to the Cabinet approval of the 123 agreement. The allies, however, blame the Congress for this embarrassment, saying that it took such an extreme position against the Left that the Communists had no option but to pay back in the same coin. In fact, a senior Cabinet minister from among the allies blamed Congress leaders who propagated this “deal is good” feeling within the Congress without realising that it could boomerang—like “India shining” did.
