A team of Crime Branch officers have been put on high alert to take charge of Dawood Ibrahim’s key lieutenant Tariq Parveen after his deportation from Dubai late Monday evening.
According to senior Crime Branch officers, Parveen’s main job was to coordinate with businessmen in Mumbai and Dubai about transfer of funds through the hawala route. He is also said to have a major stake in the illegal sand trade in and around the metropolis, say sources.
From a mere tout, Parveen rose to become one of Dawood’s lieutenants in Dubai. He jumped bail and escaped from the country in 2002. Parveen’s wife flew to the city late last week. JCP (Crime) Dr Satya Pal Singh said Parveen had surrendered before authorities in the last week of June.
