PUNE, Nov 3: Former State assembly member from Nashik district, Vasant Upadhye and an activist from Murgud in Kolhapur district, Maruti Kamble, will be presented with awards instituted in the memory of communist leader Datta Deshmukh.

The awards, comprising Rs 21000 in cash, a citation and a memento will be given away at a function in Nashik on December 27.

Upadhye is an expert on farming and water management while Kamble, an employee with Murgud Municipal Council, has been working to unite the labourers in the unorganised sector in the rural parts of Kolhapur.
