Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Monday called for an all-party meeting on the Singur issue on Tuesday at the Writers’ Buildings. Sources in the Chief Minister’s secretariat said that all political parties represented in the state legislative assembly have been invited to the meeting. All political parties, except the Trinamool Congress, are expected to attend the meeting.
Union minister for Information and Broadcasting and state Congress chief Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said on Monday that the Congress will put forward its proposal for an amicable solution to the Singur deadlock at the meeting.
It was Dasmunsi who floated the idea of an all-party meeting on Sunday to resolve the crisis in Singur. Party sources said Dasmunsi also had a talk with the Chief Minister over the issue recently.
“We want a solution to the Singur problem. Therefore, the Congress will participate in the all-party meeting on the issue,” said Dasmunsi at a press conference at Bidhan Bhavan, party headquarters in Kolkata. “The problem regarding Tata’s Nano factory can be resolved through dialogue. What happened in Singur and what is happening in Singur is most unwanted.”
On Monday evening, Dasmunsi had an hour-long meeting with the Governor in Raj Bhavan. He said his party wants the Governor to continue the mediation and call the Tatas to participate in the meeting.
“The Tatas should not leave Bengal, they should find out by themselves how much land can be given to the affected farmers from inside the plant. The rest can be arranged from outside. The Tatas should build up the industry, keeping in mind the human factor,” said Dasmunsi.
