8226; Given the fact that the General Election will soon be upon us, this is the time for politicians to transfer their attentions from party to party in search of a suitable berth. Every day we see leaders jump from one party to another. The ugly D.P. Yadav controversy, which led to the BJP dropping him, should come as an eye-opener. Parties should have some code of conduct and avoid leaders with criminal records.

Quite a miracle
8226; Apropos of the article,8216;Miracle at South Block8217; IE, February 24, over the last six years many things have changed for the better. The most important change that has come about is that the average Indian has become much more confident and optimistic. Secondly, the common man has developed a renewed trust in politicians and bureaucrats at the highest level. This confidence has to percolate to the lowest levels of our politicians and officials at the ward and local police station levels. I am confident that this will also happen in due course.

Plain flattery
8226; The article, 8216;Miracle on South Block8217; IE, February 24 is a near perfect example of unadulterated flattery and propaganda with an obvious eye on the imminent elections. Great virtues have been attributed to various leaders with a not a single example cited as evidence.

Sonia8217;s realisation
8226; Having seen the writing on the wall Sonia Gandhi has now started saying that becoming prime minister was not a priority for her 8216;Becoming PM is not a priority for me: Sonia8217;, IE, February 23. She has also realised that her children stand no chance of an electoral win. If inducted into politics there will be resentment within the Congress. However, she must also realise that it is she and her Congress sycophants who consider her 8220;completely Indian8221; while the rest of their countrymen have a different opinion. She discarded her motherland, not only for the 8216;love8217; for Rajiv, but she was always 8220;conscious of the great importance of the Nehru-Gandhi legacy in India8221;. For electoral gains she lost no time in saying Indira Gandhi was wrong on the issue of emergency. If she is true to what she has said then as Congress president can she dare to get one resolution passed by AICC condemning the emergency even now?

Right answer
8226; By any standards it was a mature reply by any politician to persistent questions by an aggressive press. Asked on a daily basis whether her son or/and daughter would join politics 8212; the latest instance was the NDTV interview 8212; Sonia Gandhi gave the most suitable reply, 8220;It was really very silly to give the same answer each time. I don8217;t think I can answer that as a mother8230;I won8217;t.8221;
