
MUMBAI, AUG 13: A criminal, who was arrested by the JJ Marg Police at Null Bazaar this morning, injured himself while trying to flee by breaking the windows of the taxi under police escort. Police said Ayub Ali Ibrahim Sheikh alias Ayub Petrol, booked under MPDA, 1996, had a criminal record of extortion, theft and robbery.
Tanaji Ghadge, senior inspector, JJ Marg police station, said Ayub was en route to jail but he suddenly went berserk and began breaking the windowpanes and escaped from the rear. He was, however, nabbed.
After being treated at JJ Hospital, Ayub was taken to the police station, where he was charged for assault and for trying to escape police custody. He will soon be sent to the Nashik jail, Ghadge said.
SLP on Rent Act
The Special Leave Petition SLP filed by the Property Owners8217; Association against the Bombay Rent Control Act will come up before a full bench of the Supreme Court on August 16, according to Minister of State for Housing, Raj Purohit. 8220;We shall take every step to protect the interests of the tenants. We shall also explain to the apex court the need to do justice to tenants,8221; he added.
He said the government would also bring to the court8217;s attention the bill to amend the Rent Control Act, introduced by the alliance government in both Houses of the state Legislature.
