Man stabbed to death
A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death over a petty issue in Ranip area here on October 18, a police Press note said. Rakesh R Salvi, who lives in Indoriana Chhapra in Ranip, was standing near his house with his maternal uncle Rajubhai M Salvi when Amarsinh Thakore collided with Rakesh. This resulted in an altercation between Amarsinh and Rakesh, and Rajubhai intervened. At this, Amarsinh took out a knife and stabbed Rajubhai in the chest. Rajubhai was admitted to hospital, but died the following day. Sabarmati police have arrested Amarsinh.

Stolen
Two unidentified men posing as passengers made away with an autorickshaw from near Juna Wadaj bus-stand, police said. Autorickshaw driver Mohan Rabari was looking for passengers on October 16 evening when two Hindi-speaking men boarded the rickshaw and asked to be taken to Sabarmati. When the autorickshaw reached Sabarmati Power House, one of the two men asked Rabari to stop the vehicle. When Rabari asked for fare, one of them handed him a Rs 500-note. When Rabari asked for change, the duo offered to get change from nearby if Rabari lent them his vehicle. While one of them started the vehicle, another jumped into it and they sped away.

Opium seized
City Crime Branch has seized 1.70 kgs of opium from three persons who were passing Delhi Darwaja area recently. The seized contraband is valued at Rs 11,700. According to the Crime Branch, they received a tip-off that three men would pass from the area with opium. A dragnet was laid, and police arrested Roopdan Mangaji Rao, Ashok Darji and Revtaji Darji. A search yielded the contraband. According to the Crime Branch, the contraband was delivered by Magna Raja who hails from Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. Further investigation is underway.
