
Shot dead
A thirty-three-year-old man was shot dead by three unidentified persons at Elphinstone Road on Saturday evening. Said the NM Joshi Marg police, Cosmos Francis Fernandes was at the Rajma building at Phitwala Road at 7.30 pm when three persons came in a chocolate-coloured Maruti 800 and fired indiscriminately at him. A passerby Tukaram Chibde (55) was injured in the melee. Fernandes was rushed to KEM Hospital, but was declared dead. Chibde was stated to be out of danger. The police said the motive could be personal rivalry. No arrests have been made so far.
Dealers looted
Three auto parts dealers were robbed of cash worth Rs 2.37 lakh at Lamington Road on Saturday evening. The robbery took place in the shops which were all adjacent to each other, said the DB Marg police. In the first incident, Paresh Sagariya (40) was threatened by three unidentified persons armed with revolvers and choppers and looted of Rs 40,000. After looting Sagariya, the trio went to the neighbouring shops and took away Rs 52,000 and Rs 18,000 respectively.
19-yr-old killed
A nineteen-year-old boy was killed on the Panvel highway by a speeding truck in the early hours of Sunday. Said the Navi Mumbai police control, Laxman Prasad Sharma, an employee of Bhagwati Hotel, was returning to his room near his place of work. At around 12.45 am, he was knocked down by a speeding truck (CTX 8919), which was on its way from Pune. Sharma died on the spot. The driver of the truck Sherwin D’Souza (26) has been arrested.
Robbed
A rickhsaw driver was beaten and robbed of music cassettes, watch and cash amounting to Rs 500 by four unidentified persons at Bhivandi on Friday.Said the Thane police, Mustaquim A A Sheikh (25) was approached by four persons who asked him to go to Karol Village. On the way, one of them took out a revolver and threatened him. The others beat him severely and robbed him of his day’s earnings and fled. The Boiwada police are conducting investigations into the case.
