
2 recruitment agents held
Crime Branch sleuths arrested two recruiting agents on charges of duping 150 job seekers to the tune of Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of arranging employment in Gulf countries.
The two agents identified as Amin Ali Mohammed Hussain Sheikh alias Mohammed Ahmed 52 and Mohammed Adam Sheikh 31 were operating from an office A 1 International8217; located near Rukmini Nivas off Senapati Bapat Marg at Dadar.
Investigations have revealed that the two charged the victims between Rs 5000 and Rs 25,000 to get them a job overseas. The police have seized 109 Indian passports from the accused.
BMC official in ACB net
A BMC official was caught by sleuths of the Anti Corruption Bureau while accepting Rs 1500 as bribe from a resident at Santacruz on Wednesday afternoon.
The official Vijay Rambhau Salve had demanded the bribe for allowing a chawl resident to plaster the wall of his house. He had threatened one Jivaraj Patel with demolition of his residence at PrabhatColony, Santacruz east if he did not pay Rs 10,000. The amount was lowered to Rs 5000.
The amount was further lowered to Rs 1500 on the condition that it should be paid by March 9. When Patel failed to arrange the amount the date was extended by a day March 10.
On Wednesday when Patel informed Salve that he was still could not arrange the money, he was allegedly threatened after which Patel lodged a complaint with the ACB.
Jilted lover throws acid on girlfriend
A jilted lover consumed poison after he threw acid at a girl at Khar this morning.
The Khar police said the incident took place around 10.30 am on 15th road, Khar. Sunil Kashikar allegedly threw acid on the face of one Aparna Prabhu before he consumed a bottle of TIK 20. Both have been admitted to Bhabha Hospital at Bandra west. Aparna has sustained 40 per cent burns, the police added.
Kashikar is final year student of Chartered Accountancy and stays at Malad while Aparna is an employee of a marketing company atKhar.
