
3 snatch briefcase in Sector 22
Three scooter-borne youth reportedly snatched a briefcase from a Sector 22 resident here last night. Three persons waiting near a temple in Sector 22 pounced on Mukesh Tania, who had come from Jalandhar by bus late at night, and snatched his briefcase before fleeing on their brand new Yamaha motor-cycle, which did not have any number, said police sources. The briefcase contained Rs 1,600 and a bank draft for Rs 55,000, besides a few documents.
Panchkula resident held for cheating
The city police have arrested Panchkula resident Hari Prakash for cheating in a case registered against him at Manimajra police station. He had allegedly cheated one M. N. Sharma of nearly Rs 25,000.
5 held for rioting
The city police have arrested Ram Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Billa, Karnail Singh and Mukesh, all of whom are residents of Kajheri village, for allegedly indulging in rioting and assault.
Assault alleged
Attawa village resident Ram Singh reported that he was assaulted and threatened with dire consequences by Rachna, Jaila, Sumer and Karna, all of whom are residents of Kajheri village. The police have arrested all accused.
Scientist looted
A senior scientific officer in a Government of India organisation, Peter Lewis, was cheated of a few thousand rupees by an auto-rickshaw driver here yesterday. Police sources said Lewis had come from Bangalore. He had hired an auto-rickshaw from the railway station to bus stand. Lewis who went to a nearby shop, left the suitcase in the vehicle and by the time he returned the driver had sped away, said police sources. The suitcase contained nearly Rs 5,000 and a few documents.
Dowry case registered
A sector 15 resident reported to the police that she was harassed and maltreated for bringing less dowry by her husband and in-laws. The police have registered a case against her husband Anil Mehra, Kiran Mehra and Ashwani Mehra residents of Sector 36 and Panchkula residents Raman Mehra, Sita Wati and Sudarshan Mehra.
Fraud alleged
Sector 31 resident Amar Nath Gupta reported to the police that he was cheated to the tune of Rs 30,000 by a forest company in Manimajra. The police have registered a case of forgery.
1 hit by CTU bus
A pedestrian, Kaka Singh, belonging to Ropar district, was reportedly hit by a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus CH-01-G-5526 while he was crossing the road separating Sectors 22 and 17 yesterday. The bus sped away after the incident. The police have registered a case.
