
Four hurt, cow killed in police encounter
In the first incident, a Police Control Room van personnel and the occupants of a tempo exchanged fire on the National Highway near Rajokri in the South West district. The incident occurred when a PCR van, stationed near Centaur Hotel, spotted the speeding tempo which nearly ran over a cyclist. When the PCR personnel signalled the tempo to stop, the occupants sped away.
Finally, the policemen managed to blow up one of the tyres in the tempo, bringing it to a halt. Of the five occupants, three were arrested. The police recovered two rifles and identified two of of the arrested as Puran Singh and Gopi 8211; both residents of Faridabad. The third was hit by a bullet and has been admitted to the hospital along with the injured PCR personnel.
However, a cow also died in the shootout. The police said that the tempo was packed with cows which were being carted to a slaughter house. In other incident, a sub-inspector fired at a mob in Krishnanagar this morning. Two persons were injured. They have been taken to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.
Sub-inspector Vikram Chauhan had reportedly come from the Rohini police station in connection with a case. But when he started asking for the accused, a huge mob surrounded him.
The accused, who was also in the crowd, used the opportunity to get away. Noticing this, the sub-inspector tried to push through the mob, but was hit with a rod.
Chauhan then opened fire from his service revolver. Meanwhile, senior officials said that inquiries have been ordered intoboth the incidents.
Airport S-I arrested for extortion
The incident occurred when Baldev Singh 25 arrived from Cuba in flight SU-557 and approached the immigration officer manning the counter, SI Vivek Maheshwari. Maheshwari told Singh that his documents were incomplete and he would not be given clearance.
He then demanded 200 to give Singh the clearance. When Baldev expressed his inability to give the amount, Maheshwari settled for 100. Vivek was being watched by his supervisor inspector Jawahar Lal who apprehended him on charges of extortion as soon as Vivek pocketed the amount.
He was later handed over to the IGI police and a case was registered under Section 384 of the Indian Penal Code. Police sources say that Baldev Singh was working as a labourer in Cuba and was returning home to Gurdaspur Punjab after four years.
Man robbed by hitch-hiker
When the scooter reached Shakarpur the stranger asked Joshi to stop as had to meet his friend. As soon as Joshi stopped he was hit on the head by the stranger who was joined by two men. The trio robbed Joshi of Rs 400.
Joshi was taken to hospital from where he was discharged after receiving first aid. The identity of the assailants is yet to be ascertained.

In the other incident, Duli Chand of Guhlab village under was allegedly beaten up during a fight he with his neighbour over the transfer of a passing electric cable. Three persons Hira Lal, Devi and Satbir allegedly beat Duli Chand who later died of his injuries. A case has been registered against them.
