Yathee Kasaragod and Shalini Soni find their life8217;s answers and expressions in colours

Life8217;s happening around them and within their souls. Sensitivity to it all is what makes them artists, and also the urge to express it with the blend of style and freedom. Jodhpur based artists Yathee Kasaragod and Shalini Soni bring to the city their expressions through creative strokes. While for Shalini it8217;s all about a personal journey, Yathee uses the palette to comment on life as well.

Showcasing 26 of his works, Yathee makes recurrent use of motifs like the birds, web and ropes. His characters are often groping for freedom, they find themselves caught in a net, looking for answers and struggling to make sense of life and the world. He titles his collection 8216;Behind the Window8217;, 8220;since these are emotions nobody expresses in open.8221; So it8217;s through the window that one sees the true expressions in the eyes 8212; those of fear, doubt and hopelessness. The naked truths are all bared 8216;behind the window8217;. There is geometric division of the frames and detailing of the subjects through lines. Yathee uses graphics to portray the tragic Jodhpur temple accident.

In Shalini8217;s works one sees glimpses of herself 8212; in dreams, finding spirituality and fantasies. Her work is a very personal expression since it openly reveals her core. You find her dealing with the fact of elapsing time, relationships that may be, a sense of 8216;yet to bloom8217; depicted through the cocoons. In various frames she uses butterflies, flowers, shells, clouds et al. The thread, statues and the pomegranate remain her favourites,8221; pomegranate symbolises fertility and spirituality, while the thread is a connection between ourselves and our higher selves. The forms of the ancient statues appeal to me, may be I connect with the past more,8221; she smiles.

The exhibition is on at Government Museum and Art Gallery- Sector 10 till October 26, from 10 am to 7 pm.
