CPM decries plunder by party cadre

CALCUTTA, JANUARY 28: The CPM leaders in the Left Front Government have decided to come down heavily on party cadre who indulged in arson and gave the police a hard time, following the killing of organisation8217;s local South 24-Paraganas leader Gurupada Bagchi on Sunday.

The leaders had instructed the police to take on partymen who were responsible for setting over a hundred make-shift shops on fire and indulging in the subsequent plunder. Unlike the party leaders who hinted that the assailants could have had the blessings of major Opposition parties, the state government said that real-estate criminals were likely to be involved in the killing.
