AMBALA, Aug 3: The Haryana police have arrested a municipal councillor of Congress, Dilip Chawla, for allegedly manhandling a doctor of the city civil hospital while he was on duty, here today. The police registered a case against Chawla under section 332, 353 and 506 of IPC, on the complaint of R.C. Jindal.

But Chawala and Congressmen alleged that the doctor was demanding a bribe of Rs 2,000 from an accident victim who was admitted in the hospital by them and did not attend properly to the him.

Meanwhile, Jindal has refuted the charges of Chawla.

Chawla had gone to the hospital to admit one Mohinder Singh, injured in an accident Sunday night. After admitting the patient, a requisition was sent from ortheopaedic department to call R. C. Jindal from his residence for attending to the patient. Chawla alleged that while the doctor took his time to return to the hospital despite the call, he also did not attend to the patient properly. Instead the doctor demanded payment before he attended to the patient, otherwise he would refer the case to PGI, Chawla said.

In the meantime, some more partymen gathered and they, including Chawla, objected to the behaviour of the doctor and started raising slogans against the doctor for pressing them to make the payment as a bribe. The Congress leader also brought the matter to the notice of the DC.
