PUNE, Nov 27: The Swargate police today claimed to have solved several thefts committed by a constable with the help of a history-sheeter.The constable from Pune police headquarters, Sunil Maruti Satpute (35) of Janata Vasahat near Parvati and his accomplice history-sheeter Janabai Maruti Rakshe (30) of Anandnagar slums in Gultekdi, were arrested by Swargate police three days back.
During the interrogation, the duo admitted that they were involved in committing thefts in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Sahakarnagar police station, inspector Darayas Irani said.
The police have also recovered over a dozen milk cans allegedly stolen by the duo and sold to a scrap dealer operating from Gultekdi area, he added.Satpute and Rakshe used to steal empty milk can kept at a pick-up joint by vendors in the vicinity of Raut Baug on Pune-Satara road.
Many a milk vendor from Bhor taluka, who bring milk to Pune early in the market, have formed a pick-up joint at Raut Baug. After selling milk, these milkmen keep the empty cans at the pick-up joint and go for purchases. These cans are later loaded in tempos and transported to Bhor taluka.
Satpute, who used to visit the pick-up joint often, would allegedly steal these cans and bring them to Gultekdi area in hired autorickshaws. Later, he would allegedly sell the stolen cans to the scrap dealer through Rakshe. Both Satpute and Rakshe used to share the gained money, he added.Satpute was placed under suspension after being found guilty in a departmental inquiry instituted against him.
