CHANDIGARH, Feb 10: Two constables of the Punjab police, earlier booked under Section 394 IPC, were today acquitted by UT Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate B.C. Gupta.
The constables Lakhwinder Singh and Baljit Singh were charged with robbing one Parminder Singh of his purse which contained Rs 260 and a driving licence. In a statement made to the police earlier, Parminder Singh stated that the alleged accused also caused simple hurt to him.
In his cross examination before the court, Parminder said that he had not seen the accused earlier, nor did he recognise them in the court. He had also stated that the two constables had slapped him on the face, though his medico-legal examination did not show any such visible injury. Also in his statement, Parminder had admitted that he had agreed to go to the police station when asked by the constables, though, he had added, that the two constables later beat him up.
The defence counsel argued that once he had agreed to go to the police station, there was no occasion to beat him up.
After hearing the arguments, the Magistrate acquitted the alleged accused.
