MOGA, Sept 14: DIG police Ferozepur Hardeep Singh Dhillon range disclosed that they had so far arrested eight persons wanted in a case registered under section 302 IPC for killing head constable Tarsem Singh on September 3 at Bahona Chowk.
The DIG was addressing mediapersons this evening along with Deputy Commissioner Moga K.S. Kang. He said that a special police party, under the supervision of CIA inspector Moga, has also been constituted to arrest the other accused. The special party consists of non-gazetted officers.
The DIG also said that a number of municipal commissioners of the town assured him in the presence of large number of people of the Lal Singh Basti and also in the presence of Rooplal Sathi, former Punjab Janta Dal chief, that they would hand over the remaining accused in the case and in view of the assurances the police had stopped conducting raids on their houses. The police party camping in the locality had also been withdrawn, he said.
The DIG said that there should be no apprehension of any police action and no innocent persons would be taken in custody. He said that he had directed investigation officer Jaspal Singh Dhanoa to hand over the list of the persons still wanted by the police to the representatives of the locality. Their involvement in the case would also be explained if so desired by these representatives, the DIG added.
A special redressal cell has also been set up in the SSP Moga office and compliant boxes have also been installed in the offices of the SSP and DSP Moga. These complaint boxes would be opened by the SSP. himself or his representative.
