The much-discussed contract system for graded Indian cricketers is expected to be inked next month. ‘‘There was thorough discussion between players and the Board. The documentation process is expected to be completed within one month. Once that process is over the contracts will be introduced,’’ BCCI secretary S K Nair said here today.‘‘The players have agreed to the conditions and the process of exchanging contract documents has been completed. Only thing left was the documentation which will be over soon and no other discussion is pending in this regard,’’ he said.Nair said, ‘‘During the last couple of months, both players and the Board were busy with Australia and Pakistan tours. Now that players and Board have no immediate commitments, it is time for both of us to sit across the table and finalise the contract. However, we are in no hurry to push the contracts.’’ He also said the committee appointed by the BCCI to grade the players into A, B, C, and D category has completed its work.Nair added that the next major tournament for Indian cricket team will be the Asia Cup scheduled to be held in Colombo in July. One of the most talked about issue in recent times was pension scheme introduced by the board for cricketers. Clarifying about the criteria attached to the scheme Nair said: ‘‘Playing in one official Test match is the only criteria and it is not based on financial condition of the players. This is applicable to umpires.’’
