The Congress high command does not seem to be in a hurry to do anything proactive for the ongoing crisis in Karnataka. After the meeting of the core committee of the party at the Prime Minister8217;s residence today, CWC member in charge of the party8217;s Karnataka affairs, A K Antony said: 8220;The party state unit is trying to save the government and we are keeping a close watch.8221;
The party has not despatched anyone from Delhi for crisis management and the senior leaders 8212; who are already pre-occupied with the AICC session in Hyderabad 8212; are adopting a wait and watch policy.
8220;The party state unit will try within reasonable limits to save the government,8221; Antony said, adding 8220;The CM and the state Congress president are in constant touch with me and we hope the JDS will see reason.8221;
Antony said the only reason why the Congress and the JDS came together was to keep the BJP out of power. 8220;We did not expect this crisis at all since we never thought they could consider allying with the BJP,8221; he said.
It8217;s a betrayal: CPM
NEW DELHI: CPIM has described H D Kumaraswamy and JDS MLAs supporting him as prime movers who have pulled down an anti-communalism plank to join hands with the BJP. In a Politburo statement, CPIM said their efforts to form a government was a betrayal of the party8217;s commitment to uphold a secular government. 8220;The alliance was formed to keep communal forces out, now they are joining hands with those very forces,8221; party MP Sitaram Yechury said.
