Congress moves EC, wants PM146;s nomination rejected

Congress on Tuesday approached the Election Commission seeking rejection of Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee8217;s nomination from Lucknow alleging that his constituency in-charge Lalji Tandon violated the model code of conduct. In a memorandum submitted to the chief electoral officer here, the Congress alleged the sari distribution function to mark Tandon8217;s birthday, during which 22 women and three kids were killed in a stampede, was aimed at luring voters of the constituency. 8216;8216;Since Tandon is the authorised representative of Vajpayee, the distribution of sarees by him amounted to luring voters to support the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls,8217;8217; it alleged.
