VADODARA, June 21: Protesting against the abnormal hike in groundnut oil prices in the State, a section of Congress workers staged a demonstration in Mandvi area holding the State BJP-government was responsible for this.

Traffic at the busy crossing was thrown out of gear for more than half-an-hour as about 100 Congress workers raised slogans against the BJP government and its leaders and set 10 empty cans of oil on fire.

8220;They were set ablaze as a symbol of corruption8221;, Congress leader Narendra Rawat told Express Newsline, adding that a similar demonstration would be held at Amdavadi Pol on Monday evening.

Former member of Parliament Satyajit Gaekwad, who also participated in the agitation, said that the stir would continue at different points in the city until the State government actually checked the spiralling price of edible oil. Accusing the State government of protecting the Saurashtra oil-lobby and being hand-in-glove with its corrupt practices, they said that the BJP government had failed to check spiralling prices.
