There are no takers for a recommendation in the Congress, seeking compulsory elections to 12 posts in the Congress Working Committee (CWC), as specified in the party constitution.

One of the recommendations by the Committee of Organisational Reforms, set up for the Shimla session starting on July 7, says elections must be held for all the constitutionally specified posts at the level of state, district and block levels.

The Committee also suggests that nominations to posts, where elections must be held, should be avoided as organisational elections would bring in leaders with popular support to policy-making bodies like the CWC.

Significantly, when the CWC was reconstituted in 1999, all the 1200 delegates of the AICC passed a state-wise resolution authorising the Congress president to nominate members.
