KOZHIKODE, Dec 29: The BJP president L K Advani said here yesterday that CPM general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet would not be able to prevent the inevitable disintegration of the Congress in the coming polls.
Strongly reacting to Surjeet’s statement that BJP was making Goebbelsian propaganda about the Congress desertions to its ranks, Advani said he did not want to make any comments on the sorry plight of Congress which was a fact that no one could dispute.
However, I would like to know when Surjeet replaced Gadgil as the official spokesman of the Congress,” he said making fun of the CPM leader’s efforts to prop up Congress as a party capable of facing BJP in the elections.
Advani said there was a sly understanding between the Congress and the CPM leaders, which he termed an advaita relationship in Delhi where the two parties worked together and dvaita in Kerala and West Bengal where they are enemies unwilling to join hands. He said the CPM will now have to make up its mind on its relations with the Congress. If they wanted to join hands with the Congress they could do so, and it did not bother the BJP in the least as it would not affect its prospects.
The BJP leader said his party was on the brink of a major breakthrough in Kerala and asserted they would win seats from the state in the Lok Sbaha poll. However, asked about any possible allies here, he said he was not talking in terms of any alliance in the State.
He said the BJP would win the Lok Sabha poll with its own strength and that of its allies.
